Two-Minute Cinema: Mapping Seattle in Watercolor

Chris Raschka is a New York based children’s books illustrator. On his travels, he likes to document his visit with unique watercolor walking maps. Each map tells the story of his visit from an outsider’s perspective, including the specific places he stopped.

Raschka’s recent trip to Seattle resulted in three maps. Each day, he visited a different neighborhood to make a different map. For Capitol Hill, he illustrated the tower and reservoir of Volunteer Park. In West Seattle, he included Alki Beach. His depiction of Fremont featured the Fremont Troll under its bridge.
