Long Beach Celebrates New Public Art

LongBeach

Long Beach, California - Earlier this month, 29 street artists and muralists from around the world were invited to take over some of the city's bare walls (and other surfaces) and transform them into wonderful pieces of public art. Their "canvases" included such iconic venues as the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Long Beach Convention Center. The weeklong event called POW! WOW! Long Beach, included talks with many of the artists, an evening of music and food called Night Dive at Aquarium of the Pacific and the opening of the exhibit Vitality and Verve: In the Third Dimension, which runs through October 16 at the Long Beach Museum of Art.

The POW! WOW! Long Beach event has its roots in Hawaii where it originated and takes place during Valentine’s Day week in the Kaka’ako district of Honolulu. The festival has expanded to cities in other parts of the globe including Long Beach, Taiwan, Singapore, Washington D.C., and more.

Visit the POW! WOW! Long Beach website for information on the participating artists and a map of the murals.
