What are you most proud of?
My documentary Gay Daddy springs to mind first. The doc aired two years ago and in many respects it precipitated a bigger movement around marriage equality and it certainly put a spotlight on the inequalities gay people in Ireland faced at the time. But what I'm actually most proud of is my family. They're normal, honest, good people, who have supported me, even when it was difficult for them to understand, but they've remained true to who they are and the family values they instilled in me and my siblings. For that I am ever grateful.

What is your favorite thing to splurge on?

Vacation...I love to travel (who doesn't, right?!). I work in an industry that's largely about material things and I realized sometime ago that these things only bring a certain amount of joy; it’s life’s experiences that stay with you. So I'm all about splurging on new adventures where I get to experience new cultures and sights. When I look back at my life, I don't think I'll ever say “I’m so glad I bought those shoes”.

What was the best gift you’ve ever received, and who was it from?

My first dog Rascal. He was my constant companion for 17yrs and never once judged me... He’s closely followed by my first Crayola art set from Santa when I was 3yrs old.

When traveling, what do you never leave home without?

My sense of humor. You'd be surprised how useful it can come in when the shit hits the fan.

Describe the perfect weekend in Cork, Ireland.

Waking up to breakfast in bed and looking out at the rugged Cork countryside. After a dip in the pool, take a short drive to the postcard-perfect harbor town of Ballycotton and do the cliff-walk along the rugged Atlantic coastline. Afterwards drop into the Jameson distillery in Middleton before heading back to the resort for some chill out time in the spa. Then time to get ready for dinner and a nice pint in the local pub next door. Bliss!

I love staying at Castlemaryr Resort & Spa - if it’s good enough for Kim and Kanya then it’s good enough for my partner Aidan and I, and our pooch Harry! (The hotel is very dog friendly!)

What makes someone a local in Cork?

Someone with a wicked sense of humor, a love of delicious local food, a respect for the land and sea, and a hearty laugh! Oh and if they're out walking, they'll always give a wave at anyone in a passing car.

Tell us about your favorite restaurant in Cork.
The Farmgate Cafe in Midleton. It opened in1985 and they've been committed to food grown in the Cork region ever since. The menu is small menu and changes daily. It's a joy to eat in, laid back rustic surroundings, delicious food and engaging staff who love what they do...don't dare leave without trying the carrot cake!

If you had to give a visitor one keepsake from the destination, what would it be?
A bottle of Jameson! The distillery is a great visit—there's no better place to buy a bottle of whiskey than at its source!
