Tom Daley & Dustin Lance Black Have Fairytale Wedding in British Castle

A million broken hearts around the world united over the recent news that Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black have officially gotten hitched. The couple married Saturday at the Bovey Castle on Dartmoor in Devon, England. They shared the news with images on their Instagram accounts of the beautiful ceremony that brought out 120 of their closest friends and family, as well as the London Gay Men’s Chorus.

Daley and Black began dating in 2013, shortly before Daley came out. They both led their own successful careers before meeting, Black having won the Best Original Screenplay Academy Award for his work on Milk in 2009 and Daley having become Great Britain’s second youngest male Olympian. Since then, Black has gone on to write and produce the ABC miniseries, When We Rise, and Daley won bronze at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

The couple opened up about their relationship, posing for the cover of the 2016 OUT Love Issue.

“Quite honestly, we talked about marriage within the first two weeks after seeing each other the first time in L.A.,” Daley said. “That was the weird thing: that it came up in conversation so many times. I always knew it was going to happen at some point.”

In the interview, Black opened up about the proposal:

“I planned to propose when he came to America during the two weeks he gets off from diving. We’d worked out this whole road trip, driving an hour or two each day up the coast, staying in hotels, eating everything we see, and riding horses. So he gets here, and it becomes increasingly apparent to me that he’s got his eye on a proposal as well. I finally get my rings from a jewelry designer I know, and our trip turns out to be so lovely that I decide not to propose. Not only are we seeing beautiful things and seeing wonderful things, we’re getting to know each other on a whole new level, and he’s meeting some of my friends, getting to know some of my heroes as we get closer to San Francisco. And I thought, This isn’t what I want my proposal to be, because I want it to be in a place that’s more ordinary, a place we can take our kids to one day and say, Hey, that’s where your daddy and I got engaged. So we fly back to London, and I’m like, OK, game on, it’s my turn. We do these picnics in the park, so I picked a day, and we made our sandwiches, put them in the basket, and headed to the park.

It happens to be the sunniest, most beautiful day in the fall that England has ever seen, so there were thousands of people in the park. And people were coming up to ask Tom for autographs and photos, and I was frustrated and Tom could tell I was frustrated, so then we go to this dinner that I’d organized, originally for what I thought would be a celebration dinner, and I decide I’ll do it there. It’s a nice restaurant, it’s right by our house, and we’ll be able to point to it later and say, “That’s where it happened.” The restaurant was empty — there was one other couple there, and of course they sat us right next to them. I thought, “Why do they do this in England? But I can’t complain because I’ll tip my hand and then Tom will know. So, I thought, OK, Tom loves England. A short walk away from our house is Tower Bridge, an icon of the country he loves. It’s a Sunday night, so it will be abandoned. But as we approach Tower Bridge I start seeing thousands of people, and I look up and it’s the night of the blood moon, which is rising right between the towers of Tower Bridge. And every news camera, every photographer, every observer is there to document it. I just thought, This obviously was not the day it was meant to be. So we go home, I go into the bathroom to get ready for bed and come out in my underwear, and that’s when he drops down on one knee and proposes to me.”
