RE-NEW BEGINNINGS

I popped over to Honolulu last weekend to escape the far from tropical temperatures in the Pacific Northwest. The first indication that things are more laid back 'round here was when the United Airlines captain cheerfully stated, “If there’s anything we can do up here in the pointy end to make your flight more enjoyable, be sure to let us know.”

Rainbow_bus_waikikiweb I thought about sending up a request for a Mai Tai with extra umbrellas.

My +1 and I checked in to delicious, new upscale boutique haven, Hotel Renew. It’s quite a departure from the clichéd Waikiki Tiki touches and torches that are usually featured this close to the beach. Renew is a refreshingly chic, understated, designer gem.

Renew_viewweb IT LOOKS GOOD
I love light switch options: “Night,” “Bright” and the sultry “Just Right,” and the Shoji sliding window doors, the sexy monochromatic color scheme with splashes of red and orange, and the black, custom-designed furniture.

IT SMELLS GOOD
There are dramatic anthurium flowers and aroma sticks in all 72 rooms.

Renew_roomweb_2 IT FEELS GOOD
The 500-thread count custom linens are perfect to fall into after a long day on the beach or in the surf.

GETTING DOWN TO BUSINESS
I was really impressed with the spacious work area and loved being able to watch a movie or read my mail on the hotel room wall, courtesy of the 80-inch Projection televisions.

Waikiki_beachweb GETTING OUT TO PLAY
Half a block from Waikiki Beach, Renew is within strolling distance of restaurants, bars and the gay part of the beach.
